Architecture Workshops are hands-on fun educational activities for all Key Stages and abilities. Designed to enhance the national curriculum and to communicate the art and experience of architecture, art, and design. The workshops help resource the school curriculum by providing pupils with insight into why and how things are the way they are.

In the workshop, the quest for understanding the world around us is a shared experience between workshop presenter 'animateur' and the pupils. Visualising, designing, creating, calculating and analysing are presented through practical activities. Pupils enjoy and learn about the real world through 'learning by doing', self teaching and communicating to others.

Designed to stimulate imaginations and excite children and teachers alike, the workshop focus is on simple ideas to great effect. Using numbers, counting, shapes and space pupil’s work together to build simple modular forms.

The ideas found in this workshop are developed throughout our repetoire of workshops, from KS 1 & 2 right up to KS 3,4 & 5.

My First Structure; (tetra)

30 minutes with 8 Nursery pupils 45 minutes with 16 Reception pupils

Key elements; listening, cooperation and teamwork, 2d &3d shapes

The workshop starts with pupils watching the animateur build a pyramid using simple materials and techniques.

They engage the children by interaction, getting them to assist in the building process.

Working in a pairs or small groups, pupils replicate the pyramid making, using  simple 2d and 3d shapes to build triangular based pyramids (tetrahedron).

These are in turn connected together to make a larger versions of the same. The finale is for the children to occupy the pyramid, which makes for a great class photograph.
